Following a look at Balenciaga’s pre-distressed take on the silhouette, the adidas Stan Smith returns in a clean and eco-conscious “JAPAN SMU” colorway. Introduced by adidas as the first-ever leather tennis shoe in 1965 after French tennis pro, Robert Haillet, the classic sneakers were renamed adidas Stan Smith in 1978 while maintaining the iconic design.

The upcoming japan-exclusive pairs feature a simple design with lateral three-stripe perforations, smooth white faux-leather uppers, cream-colored heel tabs displaying Stan Smith’s signature, and a portrait of the American tennis star embossed on the tongue tab.

Beyond what meets the eye, the “JAPAN SMU” pairs adopt “PRIMEGREEN” high-performance recycled materials for 50% of the construction with recycled polyester materials coated with premium PU coating made in Japan to achieve the same appearance and texture as leather. Rounding out the design are creamy sole units that utilize natural and waste rubber for a sustainable finish.

The limited-edition adidas Stan Smith “Japan SMU” is now open for pre-order at select Japanese retailers including MITA for ¥14,300 JPY (approximately $105 USD).
